Two issues of the School Journal published by Learning Media for the Ministry of Education have won Best Book or Series in Primary Education in the Copyright Licencing Limited (CLL) Educational Publishing Awards awarded last night in Auckland.

Learning Media won this award last year for a mathematic series, Figure It Out.

School Journals Part 4 Number 3 2010 and Part 3 Number 3 2010, along with a Part 2 School Journal and five publications in te reo Māori, are dedicated to telling the stories of the Moriori people:

The CLL judges commented:

"For many years the School Journals have been an example of educational publishing at its best: wonderful engaging stories; visuals enriching content and context; excellent design; and valuable teaching resources linked to curriculum in many ways. The School Journals are envied by literacy educators from around the world… they are truly educational taonga. These two issues exemplify the Journal at its best.

These resources provide students with rich content using a range of illustration styles and genre which will both engage and encourage students to want to know more. These School Journals make a significant contribution to our knowledge and understanding of an important group of New Zealanders".

School Journal Part 3 Number 3 also won the Publishers' Association of New Zealand (PANZ) Best Educational Design Award earlier this year.
