Moon Moon is a simple story about the full Moon, which is so bright that night-time is like daytime. Crabs and developing seedlings are sensitive to the full Moon's glow and become more active at that time of the month. On a cloudy night, the Moon can't be seen – because Nana has scared it into hiding with her ghost stories. Features of the Book – Rhyming words, such as “”glows”” and “”grows””. – Repetition of “”… when the full Moon glows above.”” – Pages 2 to 7 follow a rhythmic pattern. – Contrast: the change of rhythm and sentence pattern on page 8 and a change of focus from a powerful Moon that makes things happen to a Moon that appears to be scared. (Now it's Nana who's powerful!) Purpose of the Book This book can be used to stimulate students' awareness and interest in the lunar cycle. The students will get the idea that the Moon influences living things even though it's a very long way off. The Moon has been the subject of much scientific research. It has also been central to folk traditions around the world. In Pacific folklore, ghosts become active when the Moon is full. The book ends on a whimsical note when the students find out that Nana can seemingly scare the moon with her ghost stories.”
