A child tells the story of how her ancestors came to settle on the island where she lives. It’s a story that has been handed down through the generations. The story has made an impression on her, and she imagines that she can hear the voices of her ancestors as they enter the passage through the reef after their long journey. The story is full of details that show that this voyage was one for which a great deal of planning, preparation, and skill were needed. It was a voyage full of danger and uncertainty, yet the travellers were optimistic of finding a land that offered all they needed – a land that would become their new home.
